“Fear should always be treated in a positive way — instead of running from it, you should face it. Making fear your 'stepping stone' will lead you to your desired goal."

Through my previous experience in my home country of Syria and my experience here in the Netherlands with the wonderful organizations NewBees (where I work now) and HackYourFuture (a programming school where I studied), the question that always haunts me is:

How can I define success from my point of view, how should it be achieved, and what is the key to success?

I’d like to share the answer according to both my humble opinion and through my research and reading of the subject.

The true meaning of hard work

Life is full of twists and turns. Everyone has to struggle in this world to conquer every hindrance on the path to success. For this, hard work is obligatory. There is a well-known proverb “no pain, no gain” — hard work never goes wasted.

Hard work is not the only key to success, but it's definitely the master key to open opportunities and doors to success. Hard work increases the probability of becoming successful, but it only pays off when it meets the right plan of action. This is very important, as a lot of hard workers fall short of success because they don't channel their work on the right plan of action.

I always remember: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” Hard work works harder than luck!

Generally, I plan things by drawing inferences from my past experiences. This gives me a proper direction on how to attack a problem with a possible solution. Hard work imposes pure dedication in order to achieve an outstanding result with minimal errors. This particular methodology struggles for perfection at every stage of execution.

But still, somewhere, you may fail to perform. There could be numerous reasons why. How can you overcome them?

Get smart

A lack of education will be a huge drawback in achieving your destination. It’s better to be well-aware and informed than to work hard without any results to show.

Grasp opportunities

Even if you have full knowledge and education, you cannot achieve your goal if you don’t have enough opportunities. Business relations are important. The better your networking skills, the more opportunities you will attract.

Tackle fears

Learning to overcome your fear will ensure your success. Fear should always be treated in a positive way — instead of running from it, you should face it. Making fear your "stepping stone" will lead you to your desired goal.

Faith and hope

You need to have faith that your hard work will surely yield out platinum results. Hard work never gets wasted if done with proper planning and positivity.

Self-belief

Self-doubt is your worst enemy. If you're not confident enough that your hard work will bring positive outputs, then it surely will not. The first thing you need to do is believe in yourself. Make a perfect, flawless plan, and then work hard towards it by believing that nothing is impossible for you. Hard work alone will never bring you closer to your goal. You first need to make peace within and not entertain self-doubts. This attitude will escalate your efforts towards achieving your goal.

Ultimately, hard work complemented with an intense desire to struggle and achieve success is the only sure way of reaching the success you’ve always wanted. I wish success to all.
