Story by: Valerie van Lanschot, NewBees Matching + Office Manager
“Their motivation, enthusiasm and curiosity to get started in the Netherlands and continue working on their careers is incredibly infectious."
Today, I was riding my bike with a big, cheesy smile on my face. The thought going through my mind? My work has the ability to make me so happy. A few times a week, I catch myself having this smile after biking back from an appointment.
This morning, I was cycling back from an appointment at Takecarebnb, where one of our newbees is currently interning. She's been there for almost 4 months, and she's become an authentic member of their team: she's appointed herself specific tasks because she wants to develop herself further in these fields. This is exactly how a NewBees match is supposed to go! The ball for our newbees has started rolling. And when she tells me about her further career plans and hopes, the radars in my head are working as I begin thinking of all the possibilities and potential opportunities for her future — and how NewBees can help her with these plans.
The beginning of my week brought this same energy and enthusiasm: some seven status holders from the AZC had a work visit to NewBees as part of their VOORwerk training. Their motivation, enthusiasm and curiosity to get started in the Netherlands and continue working on their careers is incredibly infectious. Their profiles, backgrounds and experiences vary drastically — from history teacher to sales manager, from baker to taxi driver — the radars in my head are already working again. There is so much potential, so much talent — so much hope.
I am happy to commit myself to newbees who want to get started with their career in an entirely new and unfamiliar country. My goal is to ensure my matches one day ride their bikes with the same smile I often have: with the same amount of energy, enthusiasm and satisfaction that can only come from doing work that you love.
